Albemarle County Circuit Court
The 1803 courthouse at the centre of Court Square, the oldest part of Charlottesville and the reason the city exists where it does. Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe all conducted business here. The surrounding square holds several buildings dating back toward the town's 1762 founding, making it the most historically dense block in the city.
