Arcosanti

Arcosanti is an experimental 'urban laboratory' begun in 1970 by architect Paolo Soleri to prototype his concept of arcology — architecture combined with ecology — as a compact, walkable alternative to suburban sprawl. Set on a high-desert mesa near Cordes Junction off I-17, the half-built complex of cast-concrete vaults, apses, and the famous bronze and ceramic Soleri wind bells can be explored on guided tours, with a cafe, gallery, and overnight stays on site. Genuinely one of a kind, and an easy detour just minutes off the interstate.
