Bombay Beach
Once a 1950s resort playground frequented by the likes of Frank Sinatra, now a hauntingly beautiful "living ghost town" on the Salton Sea's east shore — the lowest community in the U.S. at 223 feet below sea level. Half-buried trailers, a sculpture-strewn beach, and the open-air Bombay Beach Drive-In art installation draw photographers and artists, who descend each spring for the Bombay Beach Biennale.
