Cape Charles Beach
A free public beach at the end of the town grid, facing due west across the Chesapeake, which on this coast is the rare thing: an Atlantic-side state where you can watch the sun set over the water. Calm, shallow, no surf, a low concrete promenade and a fishing pier at the north end.
If the timing works, this is the sunset stop of the day. Locals gather on the sand about half an hour before.
Free, restrooms in season, parking a block back in town.
