Cape Cod Canal Bike Path

Paved service roads on both banks of the Cape Cod Canal — the world's widest sea-level canal — form two flat, car-free bike and walking paths of about 7 miles each, with constant traffic of tankers, tugs, barges and fishing boats gliding past at eye level. The Cape-side path runs from the Sandwich marina under the Sagamore and Bourne bridges; the mainland-side path connects Scusset Beach at the eastern end with Buzzards Bay village at the western end, passing the landmark vertical-lift Railroad Bridge. Bike rentals (including e-bikes) are available in Buzzards Bay steps from the path, and the Army Corps of Engineers visitor center in Sandwich adds context on the canal's 1914 construction. One of the easiest, most scenic rides in the region — ideal when arriving on or leaving the Cape.
