Elliott Island Road
One of the most remote drivable roads on the Delmarva Peninsula, curving roughly 30 kilometres south from Vienna into country where almost nobody lives. The fields and woodlots of the first few kilometres give way to the open tidal marsh of the Fishing Bay Wildlife Management Area, where the sparse tree cover and completely flat topography create an impression of genuinely endless space. There are no services, no fuel and long stretches without another vehicle.
Good to know:
- Dead end road; you return the same way
- Mosquitoes are severe from late spring through early autumn
- Best light is early morning or the last hour before sunset
