Falls Lake Dam Recreation Area

This is a beautiful outdoor area located around the large dam that controls the water levels of Falls Lake. It is called Falls Lake Dam and was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1978 and 1981 on the Neuse River to help control flooding and provide a reliable water supply. The structure is about 1,915 feet (584 m) long and 92 feet (28 m) high. The area around the dam is also popular for fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking. There is the Falls Lake Fishing Pier, as well as a few overlooks near the Falls Lake Visitor Assistance Center.
