Ford's Theatre

The working theatre where John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln on 14 April 1865, restored to its 1865 appearance and run by the National Park Service. The presidential box is preserved with its flags and portrait, and the museum in the basement displays Booth's derringer and Lincoln's coat. Across the street the Petersen House, where Lincoln died the next morning, is part of the same site, along with a 34 foot tower of Lincoln books. Free timed tickets are required and go quickly; book online. Allow one hour for the theatre, museum and Petersen House. Located in the Penn Quarter, a few blocks north of the Mall.
