Greenbrier State Park
A 42-acre man-made lake tucked into the western flank of South Mountain, with a sand swimming beach, boat rentals and forested trails that link up to the Appalachian Trail. The clearest swimming water in western Maryland and a straightforward family stop four miles north of the Washington Monument. Per-vehicle entrance fee; the beach fills quickly on summer weekends.
