Hampton Carousel

A 1920 Philadelphia Toboggan Company carousel with 48 hand-carved horses and two chariots, housed in a glass pavilion on the downtown waterfront. It spent 65 years at the Buckroe Beach amusement park, survived the park's closure in 1985, and was restored horse by horse and moved here.

The organ is original and the paintwork has been taken back to the 1920s scheme, which makes this one of very few carousels of its generation still operating on its original mechanism rather than as a museum piece behind rope. Rides cost a dollar, in cash.

Seasonal hours, closed Mondays and through the winter. Directly beside the Virginia Air & Space Science Center, so the two pair naturally into an hour or two downtown.
