Hazy Mountain Vineyards & Brewery

A large winery and brewery perched on its namesake mountain above Afton, built in a Mediterranean idiom of high ceilings, ironwork, and long terraces that opens onto one of the widest views in the region — the Blue Ridge on one side, the Southwest Mountains and the Piedmont rolling away on the other.

Albemarle County is the heart of the Monticello American Viticultural Area, which holds close to thirty wineries; Hazy Mountain is among the newest and the most view-driven of them. Both wine flights and beer flights are available, and there is a proper kitchen rather than the usual cheese board, which is unusual for the area.

Practical

Open daily from 11:00, later on weekends. The access road climbs steeply and is worth the drive in itself. Weekends get busy — arriving early or on a weekday makes for a much calmer visit.
