La Brea Tar Pits and Museum

Bubbling Ice Age asphalt seeps in the middle of the city, the only actively excavated urban fossil site in the world, where mammoths, dire wolves, and saber-toothed cats are still pulled from the ground. The outdoor pits are free to walk; the museum is ticketed.
