National Monument to the Forefathers
The largest solid-granite monument in the United States, an 81-foot allegorical colossus completed in 1889 on a quiet hill above Plymouth. The central figure of Faith is surrounded by Morality, Law, Education and Liberty, with reliefs narrating the Pilgrim story. Strangely under-visited given its scale — most tourists never leave the waterfront — which makes stumbling onto this Gilded Age giant in a residential neighborhood all the more surreal. Free, always open, ten minutes' walk from downtown.
