Old Town San Diego State Historic Park

Often called the birthplace of California, this walkable historic district preserves adobes, shops, and museums from the city's Mexican and early-American eras. Tour restored buildings, browse craft stalls, and dine on classic San Diego-style Mexican food. Most sites are free and it's an easy hour or two on foot.
