Onancock Historic Waterfront

The liveliest small town on the bayside, settled in 1680 at the head of a deep creek that let schooners come right into the centre. The wharf still has the Hopkins & Bro. Store, a general store and chandlery that opened in 1842 and is one of the oldest surviving on the East Coast, now a restaurant and gallery space.

Uphill from the water, Market Street holds a restored 1930s cinema, independent shops and Ker Place, a 1799 Federal mansion open as a museum. Onancock is also where the passenger boat to Tangier Island leaves.

Free parking at the wharf, an hour or two, most shops closed Sunday and Monday.
