Prospect Park
Olmsted and Vaux's second great park, which they considered better than Central Park. The Long Meadow, at about 1.5 km, is the longest unbroken lawn in any US city park; beyond it lie woodland ravines, a lake and a Beaux-Arts boathouse. Wilder and much less touristed than its Manhattan sibling.
What to know
- Enter at Grand Army Plaza and walk straight onto the Long Meadow.
- The Ravine, with its waterfalls and the only forest in Brooklyn, is the highlight most visitors miss.
- On Saturdays, the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket sets up at the entrance.
- On Sundays from April through October, Smorgasburg takes over Breeze Hill.
