Reston Station

Reston's newest district, built directly on top of the Wiehle–Reston East Metro stop on the Silver Line. Where Lake Anne shows 1965 and Town Center shows 1990, Reston Station shows what the same idea looks like in the 2020s: glass mid-rise towers, a large public plaza, and ground-floor restaurants and cafés clustered around the station entrance.

The plaza hosts free live music on summer evenings and screens major sporting events on an outdoor LED wall. It is a short, easy contrast stop on the way out of Reston — three generations of American suburban urbanism within a few kilometres of each other.

Practical: Underground garage access; the plaza itself is small enough to see in 20 minutes. Also the practical park-and-ride point if you want to leave the car and take the Metro into Washington, D.C.
