Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

This is a private Southern Baptist Convention‑affiliated seminary that was founded in 1950 to train church leaders and ministers. The campus is part of the Wake Forest Historic District and occupies the former site of the original Wake Forest University, which has since relocated. Many of its buildings, including Binkley Chapel and Stealey Hall, date to the late 19th and early 20th centuries and reflect Colonial Revival and other traditional architectural styles. The school currently enrolls about 4,500 students. In 2016, the seminary was granted a religious exemption under federal law, allowing it to make employment decisions in accordance with its religious beliefs, which may include policies affecting LGBT individuals.
