Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor and is one of the most recognized landmarks in the United States. A gift from France in 1886, the statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and symbolizes freedom and democracy. Lady Liberty holds a torch in her right hand and a tablet in her left inscribed with the date July 4, 1776. For millions of immigrants arriving by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was their first glimpse of America.

Today, visitors can explore Statue of Liberty through guided tours, walk around Liberty Island, and enjoy views of the Manhattan skyline. Access to the pedestal and crown requires advance reservations, and ferries depart regularly from Battery Park in New York City and Liberty State Park in New Jersey. A visit can easily be combined with nearby attractions such as Ellis Island, home to the National Museum of Immigration.
