Stony Man Mountain Summit

At 1,148 m, the second-highest peak in Shenandoah National Park and by far the easiest of the tall summits to reach. The trail from the Skyland upper parking area gains barely 100 m over 1.2 km, following an old graded path through shaded forest before opening onto a broad rocky crown.

The payoff is a sweeping arc from north through west: the Shenandoah Valley spread out below, Massanutten Mountain across the Page Valley, and the Ridge and Valley ranges layered behind it. The summit rocks are uneven and exposed to wind, so watch your footing near the edge.
