The Brewster Store

An 1852 building that started life as a church and has been a general store since 1866. Two floors of deliberate clutter: penny candy bins, homemade fudge, Cape Cod goods, newspapers, hardware odds and ends, and a coin-operated carousel upstairs among the old signage and historical bric-a-brac.

It still functions as an actual village store rather than a museum piece — locals come in for coffee and the paper — which is what saves it from feeling staged. Open early and late, seven days.

A fifteen-minute stop and a good final one heading east before 6A runs out at Orleans.
