Walnut Canyon National Monument
Cliff dwellings tucked into limestone ledges line a forested canyon minutes from Flagstaff; the Island Trail descends 273 steps to walk directly past 700-year-old Sinagua homes. The shorter Rim Trail offers overlooks without the stair climb — bring water, as the return ascent at 2,000 meters elevation is sneaky-hard.
